1. IAS and IPS

IAS (Indian Administrative Services) is an administrative arm of the All India Services (AIS) of Government of India. AIS consist of three major jobs of India, i.e. IAS (Indian Administrative Services), IPS (Indian Police Services), IFS (Indian Forest Services).

IAS is considered as the best central job of India. Its members serve the Government of India and to the individual states as well. The cadre controlling authority contains the Department of Personnel and Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions. And the strength of cadre is 4926 members in which 3511 officers directly recruited through UPSC and 1415 officers promoted from state Civil Services.

IPS (Indian Police Services) is posted as the SP(Superintendent of Police ) and works in coordination with IAS for better administration. It was previously known as Imperial Police. The cadre controlling authority contains the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. And the strength of cadre is 3894 members (as on 2016).

The selection of both IAS and IPS is done through Civil Services Examinations. The salary of IAS usually starts at 56000 to 57000 per month (including TA, DA, and HRA etc.) and may go highest to 2, 50,000 per month.

In case of IPS, it usually starts at 56000 to 57000 per month(including TA, DA, and HRA etc.) and may go highest to 2, 25,000 per month. This salary structure depends on many factors and may vary.

2. Defence Services

Defence services have their separate branches in Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force. Apart from these branches, Indian Coast Guard, Border Road Organization, Paramilitary Forces, Central Armed Police Forces, Strategic Nuclear Command also serve the nation.

Indian armed forces are managed under the Ministry of Defence of Government of India. It also has the world’s second largest volunteer army. For this, the candidate has to qualify the examinations of NDA, CDS, AFCAT etc, and has to undergo a strict and disciplined training session of specified time period.

The duty is very challenging, hardworking and most important life risking. However,
a handsome salary is also paid to them with pre-defined benefits and amenities. The salary is paid to the m according to their post and designation, for example, Lieutenant which is at 10th level will be paid (roughly) INR 56000-57000 P.M. which may extend to 1 ,77,500 and in the case of Captain, it is INR 61000-62000 P.M. which may extend to 1, 93,900.

3. ISRO or DRDO Scientists

Those students who have completed their engineering and are interested in Research and Development can apply for the post of engineers in ISRO or DRDO. After some time, their designation may reach on a higher level and they will approach as a scientist.

ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) is a national space agency of India, whose headquarters are situated in Bangalore. However, the salary structure may vary depending on the scale; from Grade A to Grade B to Grade C.

Apart from salary, they also receive various perks and allowances from central government. The salary structure starts from INR 15,600- INR 39100 in case of SD & SE, INR 75000-80000 in case of Distinguished Scientist, INR 67000-79000 in case of
Outstanding Scientist and so on.

The net salary after all deductions and allowances may lie within 95000 and extend to 1, 08,000. DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organization) is charged with military’s research and development , headquarters located in Delhi. It is a premier agency under the Department of Defence Research and Ministry of Defence of Government of India.

A newly joined scientist of pay level ‘B’ will get salary between INR 68000-69000 per month (after the applicability of 7th pay commission) and then it will extend to INR 1, 23, 100 – INR 2, 16, 000 for a scientist of pay level ‘E’ and it may reach to INR 2, 25, 000 for Secretary and so on.

4. RBI Officer of Grade B

For commerce graduate, it is one the best line to opt out. Any commerce graduate or any non commerce graduate if interested in banking sector can opt for RBI Grade B which can be further promoted to Deputy Governor Level. Apart from good pay, the officer will get many perks and a well furnished three BHK Flat as well.

The salary of the Grade B officer usually starts from INR 67000-68000 and may extend accordingly. The officer will also get the advantage of providing free education to his/her children as well.

An examination is conducted in phases for selection which consists a paper of 4 sections and it has to be completed within specified duration of 120 minutes, also it contains negative marking too. The syllabus for the same is in depth about social
and economic issues, general awareness, finance, management and other related topics.

The exam also contains hypothetical situations which should be carefully cleared by the candidate for proper selection.

5. PSU Jobs

PSU( Public Sector Undertakings ) are the government owned organizations. These may be wholly or partly owned by government of India or one of the many state or territorial governments or both together. It includes a government owned corporation, a statutory corporation and a nationalized company of India.

Examples of these organizations are BHEL, BPCL, CIL, GAIL, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., ONGC Ltd. Etc. By applying in GATE Exam, the candidates can be selected and placed in PSUs. It provides job security and all those benefits of government as well. Along with this, increments are also applicable according to their posts. The
basic salary of an Engineer can start from INR 60000 and may extend accordingly.
